So is it "height" or "heighth" ????

I have always pronounced it "height." And yet for the past ten years I have been hearing people --including newscasters-- pronounce it as "heighth" even though there is no "h" at the end.

Thoughts??

(Wait, a poll is on the way.)

It has never been "heighth". If you are hearing newsies mispronounce the word, then you should understand that as a comment on their level of intelligence and education.

If I heard a newscaster say heighth, I'd send them a snarky email.

<-----------once went at the local newspaper with a red pen and sent it back. Never heard anything from them, but it was worth it.

I am messing with Joomla -- a content management system, meaning website concocting stuff (for you illiterates *wink*) -- and I just found an absolute horror.

Hard-coded into it is the word "heigth".

I am SO going to SCREAM

I just voted, and it looks like there's a concensus of 27 votes. But the "human" poll has 61 votes, so statistically this possibly COULD change...

It's height. And if I hear you pronounce it with a th, I will rip off your arm and beat you to death with the soggy end.

It's my hugest pet peeve about the way Americans speak.
