I know the other post on here about what goes into a show bible...but what is the standard length? Is it relative to the type of show your creating or is it just a standard? I would assume it's relative to the show but we all know how that works.
It depends. It should be short enough so new writers can get stuck in without first reading a "Harry Potter series"-size stack of paper, but it should include all the important bits of information. There is no standard length, but a certain amount of brevity is your friend. You don't want to detail every single point of the world so writers don't have any freedom to explore it.
I figured that was the point. That's what I'm trying to do with our bible. Our series is kind of deep. In the sense that there is a lot going on to work with so writers could have plenty of freedom but there are certain things about it that need to be made clear. We are using the "Battlestar Gallactica" Bible as a template sort of. There is a big history to it and a lot of characters for writers to play with but ultimately what stories are told is up in the air. We do have our milestones for certain things, we know what direction the overall story is heading in and our first season is kind of plotted out (Not written though) but everything after that is totally up in the air short of where the series will end. Even that isn't set in stone though.
