I am writing the concluding chapters of my novel at the moment, so I guess it's time to find myself an editor! It's set in 17th Century England and is the first of a trilogy centered around a heroine who is a serving maid to a big, aristocratic family during the Civil War. It has many Gothic elements in the traditional sense of the genre (think Jane Eyre!) and whilst it does focus on relationships and love, I would not call it a romance. Prudence, the main character, has to deal with leaving home and becoming a servant when for most of her youth she has been a free spirit. The family she serves for has some interesting skeletons in the closet and are tangled up in the political drama of the time.

It stands at around 70K at the moment but I hope to flesh it out to approx 100K. I need help with the pacing of the novel mainly, but all-round feedback would be greatly appreciated. I can deal with criticism. An interest in British history would be a great bonus but I'm really going to focus on ironing out any inaccuracies during the editing process.

Hi, Raula. Your novel sounds really interesting, and if you'd like, I'd enjoy reading it and commenting. I am, however, no expert in British history. My first novel, now being sent around to agents, takes place in medieval Italy. I'm taking a fresh look at my own ms with an eye to adjusting pacing, so if you'd like me to read yours, it would be timely for me, as well. (I haven't asked for a beta here, but if I do major revisions, I may try it.) So I'm offering, but if you'd prefer someone more versed in British history, I certainly understand.
