So I have an idea for a new novel about a girl who sustains a brain injury from a hate crime. I am actually thinking of setting the novel near my hometown in Orange County, Huntington Beach, because there is a pretty big White Supremacy population there (I googled hate crimes in HB and found one in 2009), as well as a lot of diversity. I am not sure how to go about researching, though- maybe start with the local police or something?
