Hi there everyone,
Is there a name for the window in the front door? EX; Mom opened the small door and took a look out the window before opening the front door to see. . .

Do you mean the decorative windows (sidelights) on the side of the door, like this?

Or just the insert panel (decorative also) on a front door? Other than that the only thing I can think of that you'd look through before opening the door is the peephole. :)

What I mean is, if you think back to the cliche gangster movies, you knock on a door, before the door is opened, a tiny door is opened with someone looking at you waiting for the pass word. Is there a name for that window?

There is a name for the little door in the big door that the bouncers opened to check you out before allowing entry into a speakeasy, but I can't remember what they called it.

fisheye? No, that's the tiny peephole in a normal door.
