View Full Version : I Got Yes, thread.

Since we have the rejection list, I thought it would be nice to have a success thread. WIth this in mind, I have added this to the fray.
Please post your successes here. If you get a request fora few sample chapters from a query. If an agent or publisher askes for a full manuscript after sending a query, please let us know.
Of course, if you receive contract, send out the champagne and cigars, dance naked on the table, and end us a note here.
Unfortunately, I do not have a success to start the thread.
Who will be the first?
Just a naked dancing thought from the Palatial futon... Allen

I had a weird, silly story accepted by Opium Magazine (http://www.opiummagazine.com/)mid-April. Launch party with reading is set for August 20 in New York City. Stories will be introduced by authors, read by actors, with a Q & A session to follow. Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend. I kind of feel embarrassed for the actor that will have to read my story out loud in public because of some of the weird, graphic, hard R-rated sections. You would probably want to leave the kids at home or, at least, cover their ears with plungers.
This probably doesn't count, but I had a story accepted May 2004 by Sweet Fancy Moses (http://www.sweetfancymoses.com/). The journal was finally published this year and should be available sometime this month.

I got a letter yesterday from Heart-Felt Greetings that said they're holding 5 of my ideas. I sent them 10 ideas so they're interested in half of what I submitted. Even if they don't buy any of them, at least their interest means the ideas don't suck completely and that I might be able to sell them elsewhere, that's good news, right? :)

Must have been my charming query letter that convinced them. A little please, please, please, pretty please with sugar on top can go a long way. ;)

hehe... so I got this email from an editor saying they can't use my piece because since I sent it they have changed the focus of the publication. However, they really think the piece is great so they want to publish it on their site in ther "Showcase" area of up-and-coming writers.
So a rejection and a yes all in one :)
Got a less-than-24-hour (email) response of YES yesterday from The Christian Communicator to my second article; first one was accepted and published by Breakthrough Intercessor about a month ago (also email acceptance).
Got a sort-of yes (?) from The Secret Place who returned 2 but kept 4 of the poems I submitted.

Not certain if this is appropriate for here or not, but I got a sorta yes from a place advertising for writers months ago. I just received an apologetic e-mail from them. Apparently I got lost in the shuffle, but if it's okay with me, could they keep my information on file?

I got an acceptance from McSweeneys.net the other day. I've been trying them off and on for about two years. They usually get back to you in a few days or sometimes the same day, but this time was over a month. I figured it got lost or deleted or it was so bad they didn't even bother responding this time, but they were apparently going back and forth on it. The thing is, now that I read again, I don't even think it's funny. There are others that I thought were much better that got rejected. But who cares. It's a parody of that political book "100 People Who Are Ruining America."

Gak! Where did this thread come from? More horn blowing and bloviating!
Just landed an agent and I'm going through rewrites. Today I got a line by line extraordinary copy-edit over the phone on the whole book. My landlord is gonna kill me for the long-distance bill. Now comes tightening up the first chapter and tone down my "ship's log" so I don't cross into Star Trek territory. He said he really flipped with this book and couldn't put it down. He got back to me in six days. I am officially the first science fiction writer in his stable and he would like me to teach him more about the genre. He's fairly new.
I hit this agent after about the 15th rejection and actually found him on a thread at AW.
Why did my second book smash in like this and my first sci-fi book (which I believe is better) garner over 60 rejects without a full read? Haven't got a clue.

2006, what a wonderful year to find your first sale, agent, or love of your life. Not that each of us has to accomplish the same things, I think that it would be nice for us to continue the process of yes's and no's on this board.
I am looking forward to seeing the success of the support in the WPR thread spilling over into the rejction celebration, then into the "I got Yes" thread.
So, who will be the first? As an incentive to be the first of the year, I am offering a fun filled weekend to the first person to post a yes.
The weekend will include all expense paid travel from your bedroom to your bathroom and a chocolate covered raisen I have hidden in your couch cushion, along with some spending change that you will find in the comfy chair in the den. You will dine in your spacious kitchen for lunch, and be whisked off to the dining room for dinner, where the menu will include whatever you find in the Kitchen refrigerator. (some cooking may be required)
After dinner, you may simply retire to your bedroom for some private time, or dance away the night to the tunes of your shaower radio. (be careful, the shower room floor may be slippery.)
Sunday brunch will be served wherever you can talk your spouse into toting it. Toast, peanut butter and beverage of your choice. Afternoon football on the television is the order so long as you have paid the cable bill.
As nighttime approaches, I will foot the bill for travel from your bathroom back to your bedroom.
(some restrictions apply, not valid on days ending in "y')
