Just a little random question to make myself feel better.

For those of you out there who have met the loves of your lives (or THINK you have), when did you meet them?

xD I'm asking because I'm in a class with a really nice guy I used to date (for, like, a week) but I was still so crushed about the ending of my long-term relationship with this other guy that I think I may have only dated him because I was on the rebound. Now I feel bad and am worried that I may have dumped the guy I'm supposed to be with and won't ever find anyone else.

So tell me, when did you meet your true love?

I remember the first time I saw my husband. I was in the 7th grade and it was in the cafeteria. lol

I don't remember seeing him again until 8th grade when we had a class together. I've been in love with him ever since! He didn't know I really existed, though, until we were juniors in high school. He was the star of the basketball team (he played major DI and he ended up playing pro overseas) and I was a band nerd (saxophone, majorette, AND a drum major - total nerd). Ten years later we are married and the proud parents of a two year old! :)

Come to think of it...it sounds like a YA novel. lol

My first..age 20. At a party I didn't want to go to. We got into an argument over political ideologies. I won:D

He followed me home from the party and wouldn't leave until I promised to go out with him.

...loves are always different...none are the same. So true love is true... But never put a one in front of it.

You and I are special. :p We found them while in High School. Actually, the first time I saw my hubby, he was doing a solo in a chorus show and I was in 8th grade. (a grade below him.) Cats in the Cradle if I remember correctly.

We didn't meet until my freshman year and November will be 14 years we've been "together". We've been married for 6 years.

But our stories are NOT normal. :p I have a friend that will be 30 next year and she REALLY struggled with relationships. She had a lot of them, but no one she could commit to. She was starting to worry she'd passed "the one" up. However, last year she met a guy and was engaged within 6 months. It was totally different for her. I'm in her wedding next month. :)

Your second story actually made me feel a little better. I'm currently seventeen and will hopefully be heading off to college next year. I hope to meet my true love there, but I'm worried that the guy in my class was the one I'm supposed to be with, and if I don't act now to fix our old friendship, I might be alone for the rest of my life.

Oh, my hubby and I went to different colleges. So if its meant, it'll happen. But seriously...you will change a TON in the next few years. Its possible that the guy that looks like a keeper now, may not appear that way in a couple of years. Its rare to find someone that you can grow along with and not apart from in your early twenties. But maybe that's just my opinion. :) And with facebook, you can always find him again. :p

Trust me...there is sooo much more life to live and LOTS of guys to meet! :) I know it seems like high school/college is the be all to end all in meeting a special someone, but it's really not. Regan and I are weird (we are actually friends in real life...we went to high school together!) and most of my friends are either still single or met their husbands in college or after. :)

But don't have regrets! Give it another go. What will it hurt?

Yeah thats true. I just hate thinking that I really AM supposed to be with him, and by not doing anything to try and fix our friendship, I'm letting him go. But there really are some things about him now that I don't like. Like: He doesn't really believe in anything anymore. We had a class discussion about whether or not we belived in fate, and he said no while I said yes. idk why, but that just kinda bugged me. There was some other stuff too, but it was a few days ago and I don't really remember it anymore.

I would talk to him again if I wasn't so worried that he's mad at me for how we ended (I dumped him a year ago because I had tried to rush myself into healing after I had my heart ripped out and stomped on) and if I wasn't so worried about looking like an idiot in front of him or his friends (since they're in the class too.)

Heh. Yeah. Joaquin Phoenix. I heart him.

Seriously though...this is probably no help at all but I'm 33 and I've never been in love. It's just never happened. I get people saying all the time, "Oh you'll meet someone someday," but they can't know that, so...while I want it to happen I don't hold out much hope for it.

Ack. Sorry. Put the thread on a downer now.

Yeah, maybe its just the idea of him? I dunno. But it might surprise you when you talk to him - ease into it! Ok...I'm starting to feel like Dear Abby. lol

Technically, we met at a party in 9th grade, but I don't remember actually meeting him that night. We went on an awkward date as friends in 10th grade and kind of orbited one another from then on but didn't actually "get together" until our senior year of high school-- Homecoming, no less, just to add to the cheesiness. ETA: We've been married for 8 years.

xD I get that same feeling when I watch a Johnny Depp film. He'll always be my #1, no matter who I wind up marrying. And don't worry, you didn't make the thread a downer lol.

lol xD yeah, this has somehow turned into a "Give LittleFlowerLei advice because she's got social down syndrom (sorry if that offended anyone o.o don't hurt me. I'm sorry.)" thread.

I was thinking about maybe passing him a note one of these days. idk.

LOL maybe you're waiting for your own Joaquin? :p Oh wait...wasn't that Russel Crow?

Yeah, you could easily let the word out via a mutual friend that you feel bad for how you acted...without actually approaching him first. Just to feel out his reaction.

And for the record, there is "real love", but it's not movie love. Relationships take work no matter how "true love" they are. :) Just a piece of advice. :)

Yeah, and if it makes you feel any better about how life will change...

When I was in high school, I had another boyfriend (before I started dating my husband) and we both ran in the same circle of friends. When we broke up, I was completely and totally ostracized for it.

Now? I know his wife (talk to her fairly frequently) and he is my mom's boss. Not even kind of awkward. His dad and stepmom were hosts of my engagement party!

And I'm not an old fart telling you that the drama of high school will fade in it's importance as you get older because I'm only 27, but it is true. It really won't seem like that big of a deal later. Might as well not worry about it now and go ahead and pass that note. ;)

Just read the rest of the thread... I didn't mean for my HS romance to suggest you, or anyone, should have a similar experience. It's almost embarrassing to admit that I married my HS sweetheart. People automatically assume I never wanted anything more than to be a wife and pop out babies. Then I punch them in the face.

By which I mean complain on the interwebz.

Sorry to hijack-- just wanted to make the point that HS sweetheart success stories are rare for a reason, and even the ones that work have downsides. Just like all relationships.

Very true. :) And yeah, you were shunned for that $99 promise ring, weren't you? Not from me! Nope. (Though, I did console his broken heart. He'd lost a beautiful girl! He was crushed!) :)

You didn't hijack xD You were very much on topic and thats good! (even though I kinda think I might've accidentally steered this away from the real point of the thread)

and honestly, I think I'd like to experiance life a little bit on my own before I find someone to marry. Like, you know. Build up my career first, maybe set myself up as a single person, and worry about marriage afterwards. I mean, I have pretty definant plans about what I want to do and what I want to be and very little of it leaves room for a husband (at first, anyway.) but I don't want to be one of those crusty old people at bars talking about how I let the right guy get away.

Yeah, it actually is quite a story! Now that I think of it, it could be its very own soap opera. There was a lot of drama, a lot of hissy fits thrown, a lot of tantrums...

Wouldn't you believe that a guy almost 30 can throw a hissy fit?
