Hello,

My name is Thomas Sasser. I know my user name may have given that away already!

I am here after a search on Google looking for information on writers. I am not a writer. I am a model kit and toy prototyper. I make prototype toys for a living. Myself and a couple of friends who are also builders have gathered to create a series of film shorts. I have worked in 'fanfilms' for the past 7 or 8 years. These fanfilms reproduce the look and storylines of Star Trek TV shows.

My friends and I are working to produce an original series. Our intention is to create a 1950's style and look of sci-fi. The primary characters will be puppets, marinettes, string, hand, sock, and stop motion.

I am here looking for a writer or writers to assist in writing scripts. I am looking for humorous writers who understand the genre of 1950's sci-fi and humor in general. We would like to keep our stories clean, no cursing or sexual innuendo. We have a basic story outline, but require assistance in writing each cliffhanger chapter of our story.

I don't know if this is the right section to ask in as I am primarily looking for a writer of humor. It doesn't have to be in script form just good tongue in cheek humor. Does anyone here know of anyone who may be able and willing to assist?

Thank you!

Thomas

One thing, I noticed you also posted this same post in Humor - that's one thing the Mods don't like around here, posting the same post in different places. But don't worry, a Mod will come along soon enough and tidy things up, and you won't lose any points or anything for doing something "wrong," especially not on your first two posts.

That sounds exactly like "Plan 9 from Outer Space!"

I'm not really a humor writer, though I've written "sci-fi" about a couple guys going to Pluto (and I know the '50's movies were usually about the Aliens coming to Earth), but this sounds like a fun project and I'm sure someone will come along with the interest and talent to help you out with this.

Oh, I didn't know this about posting. Do humor writers frequent this section also? I'd hate to have someone who could help out not know about this because he or she doesn't read a section of the board.

We've got a base storyline for the entire series down but are open to suggestions. We need sub stories for each chapter. You don't have to know sci-fi, we have that part in hand. We're looking for humorous situations, circumstances, one-liners, etc to apply to the story.

Thanks!

No harm in also posting in Humor forum since you're looking for a mix of genre writing, I closed that thread and added a redirect link to this thread so interested parties will reply here. Also renamed both threads for extra clarity.

Please keep in mind that we are NOT looking for completed scripts nor sci fi writers. Only mini storylines within our story arc, humorous situations, site gags, one lines, that sort of thing. Suggestions do not have to be in completed story or script format. You do not have to have an appreciation for or writing for sci fi humor. In fact, it would be best if you didn't write sci-fi.

Thank you!

You might be having trouble finding writers because most writers don't have time to work for free on someone elses projects that aren't any further along than their own.

I do wish you luck though.

This is the first place I've looked for writers who can perform this type of work. I have no idea where your assumption of "having trouble finding writers" is coming from and "projects that aren't any further along than their own". I have not posted or conferred here with anyone on the status of where our project is. Not once, but twice in one post you have demonstrated that you have no idea what you're talking about. Your entire post is flippant and pessimistic. It's really too bad that is all you have to offer.
(P.S. Thanks for the wish of luck compliment.)

We are working to complete another project. I had no intention on waving the flags of our combined or individual accomplishments here but as some may need reassurance, here are a couple of projects and products produced recently:

A model product prototyped for reproduction -

It is fair to say that our Space Control project is one of many myself and the other team members have been involved in. It would be great to have assistance in the one area I have asked about. That is why I came here.

If you'd like to see your gags or storylines produced in a retro sci-fi tongue-in-cheek comedic manner, please feel free to contract me here.

Again, Thanks!

The trouble finding writers comment was from the lack of replies, it was meant as a possible explanation. The no further than their own, perhaps it's because sock puppets and marinettes used on any project not for 5 year olds is personally off putting.

But my wishing you luck was in fact sincere. I was also confused by your request for no bad language or sexual inuendos as Star Trek was packed with them. Captain Kirk bedded every single woman alien or no he ever came across after a fade to black, it was there and implied.

So perhaps I simply misread your post.

And I do not write sci-fi or humor so this is completely out of my realm of expertise.

I would have come first telling what characters are; say, if you have muppets, martians, octopus-looking aliens...or the "ficus" character of Soap.

Also if there is a budget.

I love 50/60 sci-fi, AND the Virgil family (all string marionettes...) it´s the kind "lost in space" and these funny robots and laser pistols looking like modern coffee-makers.

Thomas,

I'd be glad to give it a shot. My humor is offbeat and wideranging. Just isn't funny.

Kidding, I hope. Anyway, shoot me an email at [email protected]

Here's a sample of my wit (or half of it)

A Spaceship Landed over There

A space ship landed over there
No one’s believed me yet
I walked on over after dark
And took my friend the vet

We couldn’t find the little men
We searched and searched inside
So I sat in the pilot’s seat
And said, “Let’s take a ride.”

A voice said, “Early earthman” then
A glass dome dropped around
My nerves grew calmer when I heard
A high-pitched hissing sound.

My friend, the vet, was diagnosed
Perhaps, I guess, by smell.
Some gizmo stashed him in a cage
Which didn’t fit him well.

We traveled fast through space and time
To planets far and near
And ended up where we began
On early earthman’s sphere.

“Inoculate” then “Yes” and “No”
Words flashing on a screen
I smiled as I selected “Yes”
Now Doctor Bill is green.

He hasn’t had a cold in years
But sometimes late at night
He swings through trees: I wonder which
Is worse—his bark or bite

And me—I’m glad I had a pen
And glad I chose to write
Those lotto numbers through the years
We sped through on that flight
