Presentation went well, after it I slept from 10 AM until mid afternoon... only to discover they cut our phone (and internet) service. So, I won't be around for a day or two.

Editing bad articles at work makes me grouchy! I would much prefer critting bad fantasy novel chapters in SYW. At least there are vampires and fairies and such. Also, the excuse of not being a PAID PROFESSIONAL!

I have to do this, too, for our company newsletter. You would not believe the sh!+ that gets in professional trade journals.
I am a cube-jocky, and my grammar are moar better than these dorkazoids.
(oh, and it does make me feel better that we are stealing them.)

I have something I'd never normally write gearing up and growing fat.
I mean, I really wanna get back to Null & Void, but at the same time - I'm in no hurry.
I'm swamped with RL stuff, anyway, so the world is saying "take a writing breather, darling."

Good morning, peeps! I am, well--eating a sandwich at work. A very strange sandwich from the eatery across the way. Grilled chicken, roasted pears, bleu cheese, greens, walnuts and balsamic vinaigrette on a whole wheat ciabatta bun. And it is delicious.
I am all excited for Nano, but mostly because it gives me an excuse to turn down social engagements and say "Leave me alone!" I want some good alone time with my novel.
For you Nano-ers out there, I have a Nano question for you:
Last year, I participated in Nanowrimo, but not intending to write a novel. Instead I was using the impetus of November to complete the script of my webcomic. But the muse was like, "No! Have a new novel!" and wouldn't take no for an answer. So by, say, November 3rd, I had started working on both. And by the end of the month, between the script and the new novel, I had written 50,000 words.
Now, can I count that as a Nano win?

There's no real set rules for NaNo, as far as I know. Ideally, you're supposed to focus on one project, but 50K in a month is still a nice accomplishment, no matter how scattered it is among projects.

I am reading my first steampunk novel. It's called "The Dragons of Babel" by Michael Swanick.
I understand about every other word. And people say my first chapter is confusing?!
The main character has no real... characterization, but the story is good, and thus, I read.

My first (and only) Michael Swanwick was the Iron Dragon's Daughter. Interesting concept, but after several chapters I put it aside, because at the time it was just too gritty for my tastes, I couldn't find the plot, and I just didn't like the main character.
Definitely falling into "what else do I need to do before I leave on vacation" mode. I'll be out of town starting tomorrow until next Wednesday for my niece's wedding and I'm not sure if I'll have Internet access while I'm gone.
My niece is getting married on Halloween, therefore NaNo starts as the reception is winding down. Somehow I don't think I'll be starting NaNo at the stroke of midnight like I usually do.

Dayjob is sending me to Brighton tomorrow, staying overnight and back on Thursday evening. I'm taking my notebook with me, so Partings and Greetings may have advanced a little more. I'm also taking beta-read with me - I started it yesterday and it's being workshopped on the 8th and as it's 123k words I need to get on with it.
Then back at work in the normal place on Friday, then leave for a week. Yay!
