Hello there!

I ended a writing drought yesterday evening with a 2200-word short story draft, written from beginning to end.

The Plague Year is stalled and needs a rethink and rewrite but Partings and Greetings is being very insistent it's time to write her NOW.

I think some of the intimidating 'look' of the prompts is the addition of the books-enjoyed. My paragraph would be about half without it.

I'm happy to change my prompt if need. Or we could all write two totally different prompts and the 'victim' could pick between them? One short(and general), one longer? (Mix and mash as needed?)

I think my prompt last year was a sentence long, maybe two. And the prompt I got wasn't much longer, if at all. The books aren't helping, but even without them a lot of those prompts are detailed.

(Also: IRU did a fantastic job with mine, in spite of the really not-specificness of it. That might be something to remember too.)

I got a great exploding turnip last year lol.

I think the specificity could go either way, depending on how you look at it. The vague ones give you greater freedom, but might be too vague to spark an idea. The really specific ones might give you more of a challenge ( make you write outside your unusual sub-genre, or a subject you wouldn't normally choose) but might make you feel hemmed in. Swings and roundabouts

However I've edited mine so there's a long version and a short version.

I am happy to report that I'm sitting in the dark at school b/c the power has gone out, but we have internet. We also have lights at select locations and I'm considering a move from this creepy room.

Use of generator resources, win.

Who needs power when you have long battery life and internet? I'll just get some foil from clin path and fire up the bbq from FA and I can heat my dinner too. Yay.

Okay, I kinda hope power returns before dinner time. Plz.

And if you do need to go exploring in the dark, a flashlight works a lot better than a candle. Of course, sitting tight and waiting for sunrise works even better. It always floors me in horror movies when the idiots go looking for the monster.

Grr. Just got a call from a group calling itself the "Breast Cancer Relief Foundation" and I was trying to take a short nap. At least my grogginess (and crankiness) worked to my advantage.

I'm sure they'll call again, because I have a hunch this is the same group that called two days ago. Next time I think I'll start off by asking them why I should donate to a group that masks their number on Caller ID, which by the way is illegal in at least ~~one~~ five states...

I wonder if the SD Attorney General has any teeth...

I'm a bit loopy/ADD/something right now, I think...still up from this past weekend (got to see my college friends, with a made-up-on-the-spot Living Chess match and real live writer-people to chat with), and it's mixing with NaNo-excitement for some really weird mental effects. And of course this is right when work's getting crazy... We're all mad here, right?

(Sorry if my Secret Santa notion caused upset, btw. See above re loopiness. I really truly will be excited for whatever Santa brings! And I'm getting ideas from the other requests posted too...)
