Also, Kitty Pryde writes Lit Fic about Cali boys.

Shunnnnn the non conformist. Shunnnnnnn.

I'm writing an historical romance

Am tempted to make it fantasy though. Not sure if my historical knowledge of 1690's English Navy in the Caribbean is up to it. Anyone know anyone who can give it a once over and throw their hands in the air in horror at what I done?

Mind you, I came up with a spanking new magic system, which, if I had to turn it fantasy, would be leik teh awesome. :D

I've thought about writing fantasy stories or novels set in a specific historical era, but I'm hesitant because of all the research required. I'm afraid that I wouldn't be able to write old speech convincingly and that I'd get various other things wrong.

Yes, I have great respect for people who can do enough research to write mostly-accurate historical fiction. Any time I write about 'real stuff' I spend ages agonizing that I've got it all wrong and everyone will laugh at me. I am only knowledgeable in like, 3 not very interesting subject, and the rest I think I have laughably wrong.

Yeah that's the trouble I'm having. Mind you the research I have doen has been..interesting. There's an account of a Spanish sailor with an Indian mistress and he caught her doing a 'lion-like creature' or so he says. And a race of people that don't talk and have great talons on their feet.

Weird

I'm not writing historical fiction right now, but I've been doing a lot of research to pin down the feel of my setting. And there's the fragments of another future WIP brewing, which will be (alternate steampunky) historical. Set during the Columbian Expo, in fact.

Actually I love QH - it helps me distill the story in my head - Great for rewrites. And Kitty was very helpful. So I avoided making my MC sound like a paedophile ( among other things) :D Young woman, not young girl. Lol

But paedophile MCs are all the rage ;)

I like pseudo historical stuff. I really should read some steampunk.

If it helps, though she looks young, she's actually several thousand years old. she just can't remember it :D And my MC is 23 ish, which makes her the cradle snatcher.

And I am so second guessing myself just lately. I have no confidence in anything. Bah!

Cake jumping is so last Cantina. Glass budgie smugglers are making a comeback though ;)

(Okay, cake jumping never gets old. It's too funny a combo of emoticons)

No second guessing. Find the awesome and develop it.

Anyone getting their cradle snatched at 23 is prolly being done a favor :)

Btw, I still need to figure out how to tell my study partner we're just buddies:

This guy has a crush on me. He's smart (like, smart for a vet student even), nice, studies hard, has a DVM in Pakistan. Offered me a massage, etc.
And I'm so not into him. *sigh*
Nice guy though.

Why are all the guys I like taken? Oh, it's b/c I'm in vet school. This guy's only single b/c he's new here.

Writing a parable play about fanatism over here...

Fascinating subject. Good luck with it. Is it in English, or Spanish? Just curious.

<-----Doesn't speak much Spanish.

He thinks so :D But then he's mad as a fish so...

How mad, exactly, is a fish? I've always found them quite sane. *shrugs*

Why are all the guys I like taken?

Oh, how sweet. I had no idea you felt that way about me, Baha. :D

Go to a party with him and find some hot dude to make out with.

Oh, did I mention all my ideas about how to deal with people are small and passive-agressive? Not good with humans. Sorry.

You're on to me KC. I hated you when I first met you. But when Neuro confessed how much time you two spent talking, I was madly in love with you. I want to be the one you jump a cake for.

 I kinda like it. Except then I imagine being on the receiving end... Ouch.

Something about a boy fancying the magic ghost pony.

For telling people we're just buddies, I generally take the ignore it and hope it goes away approach. Unless it's actually brought up in conversation. Then I try to be gentle about it.

Don't do it my way, just by the way. Some people seem to take the gentleness (or at least lack of my usual mockery) to mean "no, but yes, maybe." And that leads to confusion. And awkwardness.

As for why the ones you like are always taken... Take it as a compliment to your taste in men. :D

Oh, how sweet. I had no idea you felt that way about me, Baha. :D

Oh, God. Oh, no. The man-ego, she swells.

SAVE YOURSELVES!

*runs like hell*

Yeah, but I hate it when I get hugged (awkwardly) in public by the guy that clearly has a crush on me. *sigh*

Next time we're sitting in the middle of the f--king cafe. lol

The guy sitting next to me smells like a deodorant factory. It offends my nose. So I've decided it's close enough to my next class time for me to make like a tree and get the fuck out of here. Or something.

Good luck with your lovesick puppy, Brat.
