I am having the greatest time writing my latest icky bug, The Factory. Some of you have seen the prologue to it in the SYW section.
I'm past the 3/4 stage now and just get lost in the writing. I've learned so much over the years and apply as much of it as I can, but when it comes to the flow of the story, I just spill it out and worry about the details later. As an indicator of my writing proficiency, my rough drafts are much cleaner than they would have been ten years ago, or even five years ago.
With my creative process, as I've stated before, I know where I want to start, and where I want to end, and everything inbetween is totally up in the air. At this point, the hero has made an attempt to kill the icky bug and it failed miserably. Now his girl hates him and he has become persona non grata at work. He has to regroup. I wrote the seeds of that in chapter 53 yesterday and last night, dreamed up a few more details I want to include in the plot in the next few chapters. In fact, as of yesterday morning, I had no idea which direction things would go until I wrote it down and it surprised me. Now, after last nights epiphany, I know where things will lead from point a to the final battle.
This may not be the writing process for everyone, but I'm having a hell of a lot of fun with surprising myself.
This is why I write!
This book may never see light of day in a book store, but at least I'm having a great time writing it.
