So, I'm almost done (I think, I hope, I pray) with revisions to my first novel. I'm now starting to consider sending it out to agents. Problem: on Nathan Bransford's blog, he mentions that he likes to see manuscripts double-spaced. Fabulous. So I hop over to my Word document and intend to double-space it. Except that...well, it looks HUGE. Observe:
The problems began on the evening I tried to drown myself in Lilly Barber’s swimming pool.
They were a variety of problems, as well: parental problems, Lilly problems, Elisa problems. It should tell you a lot about the two women in my life that they were in categories all by themselves. Elisa’s was larger than Lilly’s, though. Elisa’s was larger than that of anyone I know, have known, or will know. That I can guarantee.?
Mr. Barber was the salesman to end all salesmen. He was as aggressive as a tiger and built like a barn door. His leonine behaviour had earned them a swimming pool three summers previously. The Barber family lived right next door and our houses were near-identical, but we didn’t have one. This is the only explanation I can give for why I didn’t try it at home. Except that, you know, all the television shows said not to.
In the hour before, we scouted out the area. “I’m pretty sure it’s not deep enough,” Lilly said, “My dad says our dog couldn’t even drown in there.”
“Well, no wonder. Your dog is an Alsatian.”
She rolled her eyes. “I know that.”
The Other Side

Not sure if it translates very well to AW formatting, but that is what I have on my first page! I'm now in the panic zone of, "THAT can't be right." So what do I do? Is that what Microsoft Word double-spacing is supposed to look like, and is that what agents will be satisfied with?
