Do you ever run across something and think.. "Ok, that's just... um... that's not.... um...I have to tell somebody about this."

This is one of those.

From the website:

The next best thing to pet salvation in a Post Rapture World

I think I might be jealous for not thinking of it first.

Wait, if they're so ... about Jebus why would they want their pets cared for by athiests?

(I've heard of these.... people, but can do little more than gape when I look at the details)

(man, it's hard not to make reference to total fucking whackjobs in here)

Um, yeah, but...one thing I've never understood about the rapture - which I don't believe in.

The Bible says flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom.

So where do these people think their bodies will go?

Wow, the easiest 110 US dollars ever earned to some people... also, perhaps a free puppy!

I don't believe in the rapture either. I was watching the History channel and it said that some scottish peasant woman made the whole thing up in the 16th century or something like that.
And some rich dudes in roman times made up the stories that it all started from.

It's a hairy line to walk, but I wasn't intending this to question someone's religious beliefs, more to question someone else's ethics.

Yeah. Uh, dogs. Um...money.

Well, at least atheists are good for something.

It's only bad if people actually give them the money.

I'd sign up just for the free puppy.

Well, there are a lot of Jews who are happy to work on Christmas Day so Christians can have the day off to stay at home with their families (and/or go to the movies).

Thanks, I appreciate that! ;)

How interesting that my current WIP is about the rapture.

I think it's an interesting question to consider, but I don't think there's anything ethically wrong with it. From the point of view of the Christian, he is paying for what is almost an insurance policy, just one that pays out in care for a loved companion, rather than in money. From the point of view of the atheist, he doesn't believe that the rapture will come, but he allows for the fact that he might be wrong. If he is wrong, and he doesn't follow through on his promise to care for the animal - that makes it ethically wrong. But so long as he does provide the promised care in the event of a rapture, I don't see how it can be ethically problematic.

Why would they care about their bodies when their spirits are going to Heaven?

As far as I'm aware, many rapturalists (that's a real word) believe their bodies will be taken as well, which is directly opposed to what the Bible actually says.

Unless they believe their bodies simply disappear, but if they're not needed in Heaven, why would God make such a thing happen?

If I had to leave my pets behind, I'd very reluctant to go. Not that I believe in the rapture anyway.

I think... if rapture actually occurred (count me as another skeptical Christian), society would be in such upheaval as to make this program irrelevant, or at least very hard to carry out. Also? If God is going to make me disappear instantly, I think I will probably trust him to take care of my pets. And everything else I leave behind.
