This morning I've found that if I open 2 MS-Word documents, the cursor in the second document is about one half its usual size.

Why is this?
Is it a symptom of some deep MS-Word malaise?
Is it something I should be worried about?
Does size matter when it comes to cursors?

I think you're looking at MS's version of the donut spare that GM came out with to replace spare tires. They found that it takes less memory to display the smaller cursor. The plans are to eventually reduce the size of all cursors. The engineers calculated that they will save 8 bits every time the cursor moves.;)

Usually cursor size in MS Word is determined by the font type and size. The cursor will change sizes in the same document based upon the font type and size of the section it is in.

ETA: You can, however, change the cursor width. That's in the "Accessibility Options" under the "Display" tab. I've found that a thicker cursor helps to keep me from getting lost on the page sometimes.

Insert your joke here.

Fat cursors are easier targets fer sher. I also speed up the blink rate of my cursor in the (Control Panel) Keyboard options so it will attract my eye better.

If Word is playing tricks with cursors, maybe one should be thankful it has a sense of humor too. One often needs one when dealing with it.
