Just a guess - You are not conducting any current but you are contacting several thousand volts of static electricity. It should feel like one of those Tesla balls, where your body would tingle all over. If your hair were dry, it would stand on end. There may be some heat involved.

RJK - That's my guess, too. I've searched all over the net and can't find any first hand reports, so I may just go with this.
