I've tried some free anti-virus programs and they all seem to slow my system down, then my neighbor told me about Cyberdefender. So I got the free version - it was a little confusing, but after I tried it, I like it, It was fast, had a clear user interface and it deals with viruses, trojan and spwyare - all in one program and it comes with 24/7 copmuter help, PLUS they are a public company - so they need to be a legit company to be traded on the NASDAQ.

I didn't liek that the free version only scanned to remove the trojans and spywaare, but you have to upgrade to remove viruses. I understand, they do have to make money, who doesn't, right? It also had some annoying popups to remind you to buy the upgrade.

So this is my experience with Cyberdefender. I liked the paid verion, and I've found the 24/7 computer help is so unique. My son has used it while I was away on a business trip to get computer support.

Does anyone know any other anti-virus softwares that come with the 24/7 computer help? Some do offer techincal support, but this Cyberdefender help is for any kind of computer problem. That's pretty cool.

So I recommend this to people - it's good stuff.

According to the information at the CyberDefender site, the free version gives full protection. If it doesn't, then they are still scamming just as their old reputation has it. CyberDefender has been on and off various malware blacklists in the course of its history, and there are still fresh stories of bad experiences cropping up on the Internet along with the good. If they demand to be paid to finish the job, it's a scam in my book.

Avira pops up an annoying ad window every day when it gets its update, but it performs flawlessly without disrupting normal operations. I abandoned AVG because it made everything drag a hundred ton anchor when it did anything *rolls eyes*. In my own computer, Clam sits dormant awaiting my infrequent commands -- I prevent immediate threats by using a (free) firewall and exercising reasonable caution.

In my opinion, the candy crutch of support has little value, except to maintain consumer helplessness. It reeks of sucker-bait, especially in the light of CyberDefender's past record. There is plentiful free information to be had, and free tech help in online forums; no one needs to be in the dark.
