In stories if there is a piece of writing, such as a sign, a note, a journal entry and the like are they supposed to be Italisized, or just separated by spaces???

More often than not, they're italicized or set off by quote marks. Flip through a few books like yours and see how others do it.

I haven't seen many books containing what I am looking for as an example, so I am just going to leave them italisized as that seems to be the correct way to do it
