Wonderful! Congrats on getting this far, rice. Let us know when you win. :)

Welll... let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. It wsa actually a screenplay that I had submitted two years ago that finished in the top 10%. I re-wrote it and then re-submitted it. After submitting it, I then thought I had ruined it. But I have since isolated an area that I think needs work, deleted some material and, since submitting it, have embarked on a short re-write in these areas.

A painting is never finished.
I don't know what Nicholl's is aside from it being a writing competition, but from the responses here, you've something to be proud of and could use this information when contacting agents and/or managers.
Excellent news for you then and keep up the writing - every scene [chapter] and sometimes sentence is a learning experience.

Congratulations! I am wondering if you can share what helped you most in developing your skills to achieve this. Did you use a personal mentor? Formal classes? Coverage services? Your insight is appreciated.

I took weekend classes on screenwriting and story structure twice separated by several years. Read a whole series of books on screenwriting. Studied film production at Ryerson University in Toronto. (Which, truth be told, taught me nothing when it came to screenwriting) I think the best thing I ever did with regards to writing a screenplay was to study acting. And I was always fascinated by film editing. In fact, originally I wanted to be a film editor.

Congratulations.
I read on these forums that the Nicholls is one of the few script competitions worth participating in, so you're doing great.
