I'm half way through my current WIP, really enjoyed the last couple of chapters as I'm 'right in there' now if that makes sense. Except for one little factor that I have decided I don't want in it, it's not a major thing but a niggly thing that crops up throughout and can be changed with some work and cutting/pasting etc etc. Basically it's one of my main characters jobs except its more like his livelihood.
Running along side my sort of main story was this feeling of failure that he has about this job (which his father did aswell so he sort of felt like he had to do it to keep the tradition up blah blah). Anway at this point in my novel he has decided to give up on it, fighting a sense of letting his dead father down but feeling he has to for various reasons. But I just don't like it, it's steering my novel a way I dont want it to go. So I'm going to scrap the idea but now I am left with a problem, well not so much a problem but more a pain in the backside because I now have to give him another job (or do I?) and make all these alterations in the chapters to fit.
This character is a real 'do anything for his family' type bloke so I feel he would work hard at something. His kid is at a private school and he has a nice house etc so he does need a job or a way that he has made money in the past. But not in a dodgy way or anything.
So now I'm thinking do i just carry on writing and let this new story emerge and then when Im doing my first edit do I go back and change everything, or is that just asking for trouble? I'm up the wall with this now.
