Monk: The Final Season

It is both and sadness that I found that the eighth and final season of our beloved MONK begins this August 7.

This has been one of my favorite shows, and while I'm sad to see it go, I know they are going to really impress us with this last season.

I have several friends that just love Monk. I think the humor is a bit old and lagging, and only watch it on re runs if nothing else is on. I guess it will have it's own cult following.

Monk has had moments of greatness, and moments of mediocrity. I love the character and the show overall and hope this last season is indeed the best of them all.

I love Monk. And the commercials about the last season are kinda sad. I get teary-eyed whenever they're on.

This show is a perfect example of a mediocre script saved by exceptional actors.

It's a good show, but IMO the last season was lacking. Tony Shalhoub is a smart guy to pull the plug and get out before it seriously goes under.

On that note... a huge congratulations to Tony Shaloub who has been nominated for yet another Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in Comedy series.

He totally deserves it. MONK would be nothing without him!

Totally sad about this. The show was great the first few seasons. This past season has been lacking, but I still love Tony Shaloub and the other great actors.

Lord, I hope not. I don't know why so many shows think there has to be a romance between characters. Men and women can be friends without it.

I don't think they'll put Natalie and Monk together. She admires him, but I don't feel a love interest. Plus Monk needs to get used to the idea he will be free of angst (I think that's how the series will end.)

Two predictions: One: I'll be bawling my head off. I don't think any character on TV can play poignancy like Shaloub can. Two: I think the last scene will be him "sleeping in the middle." [If you didn't see the first part of the ending, this prediction goes back to the first part.]

Love Monk! Its one of the few shows that my husband, son, and I all like. Sometimes the plotlines get weird or too obvious, but we watch it for the humor. Unfortunately, I do think the show has run its course.

I stopped watching Monk shortly after Natalie came on board. Just had other things to focus on. But last week i watched the ep with my dad and now i have to watch tonight to see if my prediction on how he was poisoned is right or not.

Just watched the finale. I cried (but then, I cry at some of the silliest things). But it was a quite satisfying ending.

I thought it would have been better without the sappy montage.

But Monk's sudden utter badassery was very satisfying. Who knew?

I thought it kinda sucked. They went nowhere with that whole six-fingered man thing. They built it all up and totally let it go.

And I didn't think it made sense. Why did the judge kill her? She knew nothing about it. I can see why he killed the midwife, she knew. But why kill Trudy? Did nobody else know about this baby? How is that possible?

Still, it was sweet to see the series end.

Ditto. I was more than a bit cheesed off by the whole "The answer was right there all this time!" thing, and the fact that it felt like all the clues they've been dropping all these years amounted to nothing at all.

Here's a tip, if you think your life is in danger: Make more than one videotape and give those tapes to more than one person.

The woman was a journalist; did it honestly not occur to her to leave that information with other people, or to write a note that said something like, "Please open in the event of my death"?

It felt like a big deus ex machina. JMO, of course, but that bugged me.

It was nice to see the mystery solved and interesting to watch the changes in his character after the murder was solved. A couple things I found irritating was the hanging on of Trudy's daughter. The coughing from him being poisoned was irritating too. But overall the ending was satisfying and good to see him continuing with investigating.

I did, too. But it didn't happen. And should have. The Natalie "boyfriend" business in the last episode was totally lame and unnecessary.

But they left the door a bit ajar for something further (specials? a movie?) down the road.

Frankly, I think they missed an opportunity to have Dr. House cure Monk of the poisoning, with all the incumbent baggage those two characters would have brought.

Monk found the six-fingered man a few seasons ago. The guy died before he could confess who hired him.

I had pretty much everything figured out well before it happened (save the midwife). It was rather disappointing that I knew what was happening and I hadn't watched in years.

I agree. I was disappointed by the finale. It was all too easy to guess and everything wrapped up too neatly for everyone. Last week I was actually afraid that Monk was going to die (I worried what Trudy meant with "It won't be long now"), but during the last episode I knew he wasn't in any real physical danger. Kind of killed the suspense for me.

And I didn't cry -- at least, not like I should have at the end of an amazing series I've been following for years.
