I had no clue they were even making a movie. In this case though, it may work well. I am fond of Rachel McAdams, she is probably the positive selling point for me :)

It may be they are going to soak it in the mushy soup though. I'm not a big fan of that aspect.

I know it's best to reserve judgment but the trailer scared me.

I totally love the premise of this story. I read the book years ago but I'm not a fan of the writing in any sense so I had a hard time thinking the book was any good.

I think the movie could solve all those problems, assuming they, like you said, don't drown it in a pile of sap. I don't care for that, either, but I do think McAdams is talented.

This will probably end up being a rental for me.

While I love Eric Bana, I think he's too large to play Henry (not that that would matter to your average movie viewer who hadn't read the book). Henry was a skinny, wiry guy always in motion, definitely not Bana, at least to me anyway. I envisioned someone more like Guy Pierce.

Rachel McAdams, I guess she'd be OK as Clare.

Robert Schwentke's directing this movie. I think he's quite underrated. I thought Flightplan had a pretty bad story (and he didn't write the screenplay, so yeah), but the use of colors and space, the rhythm, and the general direction was quite good. He's a very visual and aesthetic director.

I re-read the book when I saw the trailer for it. I usually wait for movies to go previously viewed & just buy them but I'm actually going to the theater for this one. I know I'll leave saying the book was better but I still can't wait. I'm driving 5 hrs to see it w/ my friend who(m) I gave the book to.

That'll make it a solid memory regardless of the movie itself. Hope you have loads of fun. My best friend is 6 hours away, always worth the investment of time. :)

It's been years in the making, really. The rights to the film originally belonged to Plan B, Jennifer Aniston's and Brad Pitt's production company. When they split, the whole project was in purgatory for awhile.

The trailer walked the fine line between plot awesomeness and romantic cheese, IMO. I read a blog post about the movie in which the writer said he watched the movie trailer in the theater, and when it was over, someone in the audience shouted "More time travel, less wife!"

That pretty much sums up how I feel.

I should clarify that it had been in pre-production stages for awhile under Plan B, but the actual movie wasn't sitting on the shelf for years or anything.

I hope not... but the trailer does err on the sappy side. The book isn't THAT sappy. So I hope they didn't go that route with the film.

Don't get me wrong; the love story is emotional core of the story. But the thing is, this really isn't a romance, per se. Part of why it's so intriguing is the way Henry time travels (couldn't control it) and how his life is forever entwined with Claire's, but neither has any control... so I agree: more time travel and less wife; more on their journey and growth as two people instead of focusing on the romance.
