Question for you! In the contest thread, comic page 2, last panel (with W9/C3 dialogue/caption) -- is he aiming a gun? Or is that some kinda background geometry to the left? I can't really see what it is. Yeah, I probably need my eyes tested.

Aiming a gun.

Also, multiple entries are OK, up to 3. I'll add this to the ruleset.

Congrats to ... FishyFish! Fishyfish wins the secret Early Bird special prize. Fishyfish not only has the first entry, s/he's also a lurker, with no posts! So, maybe this will help him/her unlurk. Or whatever the verb may be there. ;)

Fishyfish, if you see this, drop me a note with a name and address and your early bird prize will be on its way!

I found myself limited in trying to keep a sense of continuity in the panels, and I wonder if this is the case for most writers? What comes first in the industry? The panels or the dialogue?

As I understand it, the answer to this question is, "yes."

Greets all!

Your submissions have been taken in and they are being peeked at by our secret judge panel. However, I'll be a day late with the results. They will show up Aug. 4 (Tuesday). Thanks for understanding, thanks for the entries and best to all who entered!

Hi folks, our judges are dragging their feet a bit (and they know this), but they also have other commitments related to comics and comic books, so they will get a mulligan -- until tomorrow. :)

Thanks for your patience.

I did one serious one, one tongue in cheek.

So is there no public voting, then?

What, no after-contest discussion?!

Here goes nuthin'.

I mentioned to jst that I have problems writing scripts on the blank page, my creative flow (such as it is) rises when I'm actually lettering comic panels. So I saved a copy of the contest page images and edited these to actually type dialogue into the balloons and caption boxes (on a new layer, natch). This limited the size of the lines, they had to fit. Or indeed, had to be expanded because there wasn't enough words and the white border appeared excessive. Did anyone else consider doing this -- tailoring the script to the available area?

I did. I figured the size of the balloons and text boxes was a part of the challenge.

I just rushed mine off in an hour and a half when I saw the contest. I meant to do a well-thought out script where the characters are all kids roleplaying but never got around to it.

That one panel with the planes at the end of page 1 really confused me. I guess looking at the winner scripts it was suppose to be a set-up for the next page which makes complete sense in hindsight. (I kept it as a continuation of page 1)

And no I didn't worry about word balloon sizes (past basic common sense) and I've never lettered a comic page so I don't know if that would help my creative flow or not

I have judges' remarks and I'll post those later today. We agreed the balloon size wasn't an issue (in relation to the amount of text wanted). Rather, that the text work in the overall scheme of things. The only hit would have been if someone had gone on line after line after line as though it was prose. No one did.

Next contest will be in October.
