Hello, I happened to stumbled across a link to this place while rummaging through writingforums.com. As the post title suggests I am only fourteen years old. I am also from the U.S.A. I am NOT a writer, I am a sad helpless person who only wishes he could be a writer (Check out my post ¨My first attempt at writing The Writer¨ in Share Your Work -> Horror to see what I mean), but I will hang around here anyway.

No sadness or feelings of helplessness allowed. Start thinking of yourself as a bonafide writer; with patience, perseverance and a little hard work, before you know it, you will be an author.

You can do it.

If you can take a pen to paper, and just let your imagination go, youre a writer.
Anyone can write, and the more people do, young or old, the better.
Doesnt mean youre going to be a profitable writer, but either way, if it brings you pleasure to share your creative images, maybe thats the best we can aim for.

You can be a good writer, so-so writer, or a great writer --thats going to depend on you. Starting at 14, its never been a better time to want to write. You have access to more learning materials than any other generation. theres books and bookstores everywhere, if you cant afford to buy the books--so thats not an excuse to say I could never be a good writer.
sorry to sound like a motivational speaker, but youre going to be exactly as good a writer as you want to be.

Second, I wouldn't put myself down so much if I were you. Many writers start when we're young.

I started seriously writing when I was 11. Like WriteRead pointed out on this thread, it's a matter of reading and writing, writing and reading. Age has very little to do with it.

It's good to have you with us. I hope you'll stay and enjoy the different forums. And I look forward (though I'm not a horror writer--my genre is Fantasy) to reading some of your work.

Once again, welcome to the Cooler.
