I never knew gold eagle books existed or were part of Harlequin, aimed at a male market. Makes me wonder what else lurks in Harlequin. Or am I just clueless and this is common knowledge? Go on, you can tell me I'm ignorant ;)

Yep, Gold Eagle Books publishes the Executioner series, Stony Man, Mack Bolan and a few other action-adventure titles in addition to a couple of sci-fi titles.

The Executioner was created by Don Pendleton in the late 60s early 70s and Gold Eagle bought the publishing rites in the early 80s. Gold Eagle has a stable of ghost writers who keep the series going.

However, rumors are milling around that the bad economy is hitting them hard. Earlier this year they cut their page counts down to save money.

"stable of ghost writers" made me remember P G Wodehouse's description of writers in early Hollywood. How the head of studios would lock up random people till they'd produced pages of script--although Wodehouse's wording was funnier.

Thanks for answering my question about Gold Eagle. Interesting rumours.
