I don't read the series much, but the House of Night website is really really neat and might be a good model.

I don't have much to add except for the fact that I LOVE character profiles (like this sort of thing, although I dislike this particular layout). Pages like that make me happy. Hehe.

I also happen to have a very strong distaste for opening animation thingies. I don't want to watch a thirty second video or something and have to 'click here' to get to the actual site. Those things bother me. Immensely.

I like forums. (Obviously.)

I agree with the character profile suggestion. Those are always interesting.

Forums are something that has to be monitored and continually upgraded. If left idle on their own, they become hacked, filled with bots, or just trolls.

I used to have a forum on my webcomic website, but my experiences with all of the above consumed more of my day than I liked.

Unless I had legions of fans, I would not have a website forum and if I did have a forum, I would not be the one running it.

As for what I like (other than character profiles), if it is a book series or the books have references to one another, a timeline that lists all the books in chronological order and includes links to them on Amazon.com (or wherever) is very helpful.

The site is a great idea, but keep in mind that any series - or individual book even - sold now won't hit shelves for around 2 years. You don't want to put too much info out there this soon or else you risk people losing interest in the story before it even makes it to the store.
