One of my closest friends (a brilliant writer, though as yet unpublished) sent me this video link, and it was so inspirational I thought I'd pass it along to you:
http://www.ted.com/talks/elizabeth_gilbert_on_genius.html
In this, best-selling author/speaker Elizabeth Gilbert (Eat, Pray, Love) has a fascinating perspective (I think) about the supposed link between creativity and ...um... mental instability.
Her premise about how that 'link' came about is (I think) spot on, and she winds up her 18-minute talk with some writerly encouragement that had me giving her the same standing ovation (mentally) that her audience did. She taps into a writer's basic fears by sharing a lot of her own, and she's utterly engaging, sympathetic, and even funny. Enjoy!
