CaoPaux was asking about Firefox 3.5 in another thread this morning. It made me think of another question.

I've tried a number of the Firefox add-ons. Some I've found helpful; some I've found irritating and disabled them.

Some I use include:

CookieCuller - I usually block all cookies except for a few acceptable sites. Sometimes it's easier however to just turn on "accept cookies". CookieCuller is good to show what cookies are on your computer, and to easily remove them.

Fireshot - To take screenshots of webpages, or parts of a webpage. I don't use this one a lot, but it's nice when I do need it.

NoScript - I think everyone should have this one. It lets me decide site-by-site whether to allow scripts to run or not.

MultiRowBookmarks Toolbar - One of my favorites. It just makes going back-and-forth to the various website I visit a little easier. I currently have 24 websites on the toolbars; these are most of the sites I visit daily or at least once a week. You can put quite a few on the standard toolbar (and not have to page over) if you change the name to something shorter, but this makes it a little nicer.

DownloadHelper

Adblock Plus

So, is there any add-ons you use and have found to be useful and helpful?
I know there's hundreds offered. I sometimes look at what's available but I haven't make a research project out of it. There might be a great one out there that I and others have overlooked.

I love
Save Session: Close your browser, and when you open it again, it gives you the option of opening all of the pages in exactly the same place. Great if you are in the middle of something.

Google Toolbar for Firefox: so you can google from any page.

I've got AdBlock Plus, Undo Closed Tabs, Tabloc, and WOT (Web of Trust). The latter is a site-rating thing that gives me a heads-up when I'm venturing where angels fear to tread.

I have the little Search box over to the right of the Firefox main toolbar. I thought it came with Firefox, but it might be an extensions (I don't remember). It has a dropdown box that let me chose which search engine to use. I usually just keep it set to Google, but occasionally I want to use another search engine.

Is this the same thing you're talking about?

I use Xmarks to synchronize bookmarks across computers. Also I use Launchy to easily edit local html files (html is a great way to organize notes and writing if you're geeky enough to do it).

Nope, that box comes with FF. The Google Toolbar has expanded functionality like highlighting search terms. I had it myself until a couple versions ago. Looks like Google's fixed the mess they made of it, though, so I'll have to try it again.

I use AdBlock Plus at work. When I found out there was a version for K-Meleon (my own fave browser), I spazzed out with extasy.

There's a weather thingy that's nice too, shows some stuff in the status bar, get a ten-day forecast with a click.

I have cooliris, media converter and add block.

I love cooliris because it lets me find a picture i want really quickly, without having to wory about any little bugs.

Media used to be nice, before youtube blocked their servers. But on a great many site it still lets you rip videos, or the music from said videos.

My only problem with addblock is that you can't right click on flash and tell it to block, and they got rid of the little tabs. Have to KNOW the name of the add to block it from the list.

Oh well, firefox still rules, because it is customizable.

Thanks for the tips - I never got into add-ons before, but I'm really enjoying Cooliris and thankful for AdBlock.
