hey, howz it goin?
well im 16 years old and im over 50 pages into my second attempt on a novel. the first one only made it to around page 20, i may still go back to save that one. its a science fiction/historical fiction novel. the plot involves a marine corp company getting sent back into time by a freak natural event. they were on a ship heading for korea with a experimental EMP gun in the cargohold. they end up getting transported to a forest thats nothing like the far east. the time is 79bc in southern france, at that time known as Gaul. they take heavy losses so out of 100 marines and 50 sailors only a handful survive. right now the count is 10. they befriend a leader of a Aedui tribe and a roman soldier. The rest of the plot is the group trying to survive as they are hunted down by a germanic and roman coalition attacking the Aedui. Eventually the same event that brought them into the mess brings them back out of it and they are safe for the most part.
thats my story, im trying to put as much fact into it as possible. Thats just something i enjoy in books a historical background. the year is right for the Aedui being attacked by the germanics. the germanic leader is ariovistus in both history and in the book. im using accurate gallic and roman names. im reading Bello de gallica for historical info on the fight. im also looking into historical customs of the romans, germanics, and gallics. lol im even gettin as much information on the U.S. military so i can properly set up the first few chapters. after around chapter 4 the whole military protocall is out the window.
so what do you guys think? i cant wait till i can finish this thing. i'm hoping to get it done by my 3rd quarter in school this coming year. i started it for a creative writing class and figure i'm gonna do it anyways so mays well get some credits for it. haha. my teacher is very impressed with me and has told me to let him know when im finished because he'll be happy to help me get it published if i wish. he knows some people to talk to. my only major problem is i cant really think of a name for it. right now the name i have it saved under on my computer is "back in time" but thats not really very original. Another idea is simply calling it "semper fidelis". which is the motto and official march of the marine corp. Its latin for "always faithful". that would be great for the name. it ties in the Latin/roman points of the book but i dont really know if i can just take that. i meen it is also the name for a march by susa.
just found this by lookin up "semper fidelis" on an online encyclopedia. how does this sound for a novel name "semper fidelis: mortui sunt ut liberi vivamus" which would be semper fidelis still meaning its own meaning but mainly there to represent the marine corp. and the second part meaning "they died for us to live free." that part would have just about nothing to do with the actual story. my characters arent really saving anyone but it would say something about the marine corp and besides that kinda sounds cool. even if it is hard to pronounce. but anyways, give me some input
