I have to write an informative article for children of any age and I can't choose a topic. Please give me ideas! I'd love for it to be focused toward teens but Im around small children and am out of touch with the teenage world.

ok first thing, BREATHE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
Now, what is your passion? What gets you excited enough to want to talk to kids about? Go with that.
BREATHE again!

Maybe look at some teen magazines and message boards. Check out what teens are concerned about day. Maybe self image, dating, the decision to stay a virgin until marriage. Stuff like that.

Here's a website for teens that you might want to browse. They discuss sex, relationships and tons of other teen issues:

Good Luck! :)

hey, i'm a teen *wonders at this revelation* why not write about writing, after all, it's a passion you obviously have so why not write about what an awesoem outlet it can be for teens and children too. Heck, i started writing my first novel when i was in sixth grade and now i'm trying to get it published...crazy!...or you could write about passions in general, i've always thought that it is critical to have a passion for something...hmm...the future is a big things for teens, what is going to happen to me after college and am i going to fail misserably and sink into a hole of poverty so deep i can't get out, ect, but that's not very young children freindly, but teens are good. i'll let you know if i get anymore ideas....oh and also about finding out who you are and developing a real sense of idenity. I know that made a huge difference in my life and it would make a nice inspirational speech i think.

I don't see the problem here: you say the article can be for children of any age; you admit being out of touch with teens, but around little kids all day...

Why not write on something that you obviously know well and can offer advice, tips or insight?

For me, I don't write anything unless I have at least an eye toward selling it -- and selling teen articles really requires that you be very familiar with teen magazines. It doesn't sound like you are. Since I hate wasted effort, I would go for intermediate nonfiction. There are probably 3 intermediate nonfiction markets for every 1 teen market that takes unsolicited freelance. And the sky really is the limit for topics. Science articles are very popular -- I recently read a newspaper article about mice that glow under a black light. It seems to be something scientists produced by monkeying around with the mouses genes. I immediately recognized a cool article -- what other "kid cool" things are coming out of genetic tinkering? Remember to pick a fairly tight focus and stick to your slant. And chase a topic that seems like fun to you -- nothing will kill an article quicker than a bored writer.
