Okay, so I just got an awesome compliment from a pro-script reader at one of the big five production companies!! She said my script was "Smokin' hot!" Unfortunately her boss isn't looking for this genre at the moment.
What compliments have you recieved about your writing recently that made you all warm and fuzzy?

A royalty check.
;)
Seriously, the best compliment I've ever received is, from readers, the simple, "Please don't ever stop writing."
One of those can keep you going for weeks.

Recently? I've been on a dry run. I'm waiting...
I once got fan mail from Ann Jillian. That was nice.

That's high praise coming from blac.

I always doubt myself so much, even the slightest compliment can be powerfully energizing.

Scarletpeaches told me a while back, regarding one of my WIP's, "If this isn't published, I'll eat my own head." My other favorite was when she read a particular bit from my last WIP and came back with, "You completely talented shit" (followed by an angry smiley).
No one gives compliments quite like SP. :D

I agree. Every time she says she hates me, I feel a love so big!

Every one of my manuscripts is littered with comments of "I hate you !@#$" and "Eat !@#$ and die". So much love. <3 <3 <3

The violence of my love. That is made of so much win.
I could probably come up with a list of the top 10 most bizarre, but flattering compliments I've ever received, and they would all be from you.

Well, take this with big helping of salt please, since the work didn't warrant it to my present mind but sure was nice then :)
When I walked in on my daughter reading my first story, crying a bucket. I think it was the highest compliment possible! (I know...kinda strange thing to say huh? lol)
A couple of online friends read my stories, one mailed them to me to be signed and another drove here to get his signed.
I saw my wife cry reading the last few pages of one of my manuscripts...the denouement. I think my heart stopped!

:( I want a scarletpeaches compliment.
Seriously, the best compliment I received was from Daved MacAfee. He betaed my PR, and for several chapters he emailed me with comments prefaced by a version of "This isn't my genre, so..." or "I don't read this genre at all, but..." (Which is why I asked him, yanno. Totally objective crit.) And then about 1/3 of the way in, he emailed: "I'm hooked." And described how he was reading it in the car, at lunch, and so on. :D :D :D
The second-best was from III, who once sent me a two-word compliment, in HUGE type, with several exclamation points, referring to *the* plot twist in the mystery. Yeah, that made me happy.

That's always a big compliment to me, too, when someone tells me my story made them cry.

There's the other side of the coin too...the scarletpeaches criticism. Usually in the form of, "SORT IT, SHITHEAD *angry smiley*"
I don't hate you as much as some people. :e2teeth:
The violence of your love is breathtaking.

I recently had Kate Schaffer Testerman (kt literary) mention a line from my manuscript on one of her blog posts. "You had me at . . ." were her words. That was pretty darn nice!
This just in. Cass has been knock-out great with compliments...she read my manuscripts and love them long time. (-; Yes, Cass...your compliments kick ass.

At this point, the only compliment that'll make me feel warm and fuzzy is an offer of representation.
So within the context of this thread... I haven't received any compliments recently... or ever.

I watched woman I work with read the first few chapters, telling me how good my dialog is and exclaiming in horror at the death of a character. Being there was very cool. My #1 beta reader -- well, the fact that she looks forward to re-reading when I've gone through an editing phase says it all. Can't be too bad, I think.

You want a real compliment from scarletmcpeaches, just mention Glasgow Rangers or Brendan Gleeson to her.

And the new Scot I added to your list, who isn't from Glasgow, but still...
About two weeks ago, I got a reply from an agent who said he was on holiday but 'looked forward' to reading my sample when he was back.
Does that count?

I try to save any positive feedback I receive.
Here is what someone said in a PM about my WIP:
"WOW! Blown away by that intro to your WIP! You have very good writing skills and you're able to make the story flow quickly and effortlessly.
I know you do other things, but don't hesitate to focus on erotic as a genre, because you have it down pat. I was engaged and want to see what happens..."

*hangs head in shame* I totes didn't mention Adzmo, even though I should have, because he gives badass compliments too...
Best compliment I ever got from him was after he read the first few chapters of Rules of Engagement:
"Holy freaking shit, Lori!!!
You have to write this whole book in the next 4 minutes. GO!!!"
God love him. :D

Most of Adzmodeus's compliments involve his hands and my arse, so I won't repeat them.

getting acceptances for 'Shadowplay' after already being...accepted haha.
one woman said "I wish I could write this well at your age."
made it really hard to tell her I had already taken another offer.

I got a terrific blurb from Ilona Andrews for my forthcoming urban fantasy:
"DEADTOWN is full of dangerous magic and populated with characters so realistic, they almost jump off the page. I loved this book. Nancy Holzner is a master of characterization and I’ll be buying her next book the moment it hits the shelf."
I was particularly thrilled because I love the Kate Daniels series.

I particularly enjoy reader compliments about something I worked hard for. I love to hear that the opening chapter draws people in, for example, and/or that the death of the protagonist's son is emotionally affecting - because I had to redraft so many times and fix so many problems to get that effect. Makes me feel like there's a point to all the work I'm doing. :)

I have a few I remember, mainly from the comments left on my chapters from my critique group. I'm generally pretty negative about my writing (yep, I'm one of those writers...) so any sort of complement makes my day :)

From failed novel attempts: I've had friends tell me they eagerly awaited the next chapter of my novel. They are busy people with more important things to do than read my slop.
So with my new WIP I'm going to finish the whole thing before having them read it since the one chapter at a time didn't work for me.

Getting reader mail is the best of all. The single highest praise I ever got -- which I love though I don't take it seriously! -- was from a woman who assured me that her two favorite books of all time were EVERNIGHT ... and WAR AND PEACE. :D
