One of the giants of the "pulp" era. I'm reading one of his novels right now. Curious to know other people's opinions on him (I'll not color any discussion with mine just yet).

It disturbs me that no one among the large and avid SF community here seems unfamiliar with Van Vogt.

I'm pretty familiar with his works. I have a copy of Slan, Slan Hunter (his last, co-authored with Kevin J. Anderson) and somewhere I think I might have a Triad of his (The World Of Null A; The Voyage Of The Space Beagle; Slan). Slan was my very favorite work by Mr. van Vogt, with The World of Null A running a close second.

I love his writing, and over the years I've enjoyed trying to emulate his style. He was a great writer, and a vast resource for inspiration to me. :)

I remember liking his books a lot, but it's been a very long time since I read him. I don't remember them at all well -- my recall is hazy at best, so that's not a good sign.

But whether it's not a good sign for his books or about my declining mental abilities is hard to say.

In between here and there
quietly adds his name to the list of authors i'll have to read up on.

Dunno, I was never exposed to him myself. I got most of my science fiction recommendations from my dad, and he fell out of the mainstream in the late 80s i would have to say...
