I am currently living in Nottingham. I also have a residence in Hull, Yorkshire. Does anyone know of a writers group that exists in either city?

Welcome Nique to our Cooler. My non-fic answer to your dilemma was erased somehow--but, good luck on that book of yours, it is certainly unique and interesting and probably does have a good niche market. I'm wondering if you can find a Russian translator to assist you in your research. Perhaps one could be found on the www net? Maybe under Russian writers or mentors, eh? Good luck with your project though.

the things is with the scholars all I have to do is praise them on their own thesis, ask them obvious questions, act humble to their grand minds - and bingo, suddenly we're back in English! It just takes a few hours to wear them down....Thanks very much for putting the advice on here - you persistent thing you!

I know the feeling all too well. Try convincing two paleontologists that they should talk to me about the 2nd greatest ice age discovery in the U.S. and bingo! They haven't got time for me. Meanwhile, agents and publishers galore are awaiting my decision to enlist them and rewrite the book in narative. No such luck. Perhaps I should have pandered to the scientists or offered major bribes. Even stroked the major egos, wot? Alas, if I had Jenna's charm to get a solid interview, this wouldn't have happened. I'm prepared to go in with a skirt and cookies and punch next time.

Alas, I have no roof - currently bathing in the sun in the park. I could get in one of the trees, but I have a fear of all things taller than churches. Its lovely to meet you, neighbour!
I don't suppose you know of any local groups at all? I am desperate to learn with others and help eachother out - just not in trees.

Hi Nique and Welcome!

I'm a Welsh newbie. Did you know we have a Welsh 'Robin Hood'? Went by the name of 'Twm Sion Catti' (Tum Shone Catty) or son of John and Catherine. He was a protestant in the time of Queen Mary, and was forced to hideout in a cave to escape execution. Legend says he stole cattle, disguised them and sold them back to the original owners! Don't ask me how he disguised them - false moustache, glasses perhaps?

Yes - I know of him too! One of my two writing partners (when I write in a collective) comes from Wales and has told me many a story into the night. The one thing he never told me was what did he disguise the cattle as? Hmmmmmm....
