Stupid thing really... bear or bare

Okay, I've come across a silly situation. In this sentence...

Bala jerked back, the pain more than she could bare.

... from my current work in progress, is this term "bare" used correctly? Or is it "bear"? I can never remember which it is. Anyone?

Thanks in advance for answering. I feel so silly, but I want it to be right. So, here we are. Thanks!!

Correct one would be bear.

I don't intend this to come across rude -- in part because I love seeing and answering all kinds of questions on this board -- but these kinds of questions are easily answered using a dictionary. It would have saved you time instead of having to post the question and wait for an answer here.

On a side note, the name Effie is oh-so cool.
