I don't know why I keep putting this off. Not exactly sure what I'm waiting for or why. I guess it's kinda like how it's taken me decades to find my way back to myself... and to writing. I'm taking a leap...comittiing myself to being a writer even though I've got some doubts about if other people will see me that way. I think I might be good at it. And that's all the reason I have to believe I can give birth to four novels, and maybe more. I've been snooping around here, and I can tell it's different than some other sites I've been lurking on or posting to and just not feeling it was a good fit for me. I really want to be around people who write. You guys send out query letters (um, and those are??), y'all talk to agents, and negotiate the sale of your work (or are trying to sell your book). You've got works published, many of you have written novel after novel and write daily! What?! It's inspiring, and I want to do this thing. I've just got to.

And I'm not sure what the popcorn talk is about but I like mine buttered, but not soaked with butter, and salty, too. Just like you're not s'pose ta eat it.

So, I'm augustday and gulp, I'm a writer (I think), one with a lot of questions.

P.S. I'm looking forward to meeting you folks, hearing about your successes and your challenges, reading your work, and enjoying your company.

Welcome. Funny thing, I've never liked popcorn. But I do like writing.

Your hesitation I can understand. I like writing, I enjoy editing my work to get it as good as I can, despite the strange editing standards of the publishers. But I've never thought of myself as an author. I feel like a story teller because that's what I've been to my children. When my wife suggested I write my stories down I procrastinated a bit. It took me 30 years to get round to it. I've got two books published now, but I don't feel like what I imagined and author would feel like.

So don't wait until everything feels perfect. Take the leap. It won't hurt (well, not much). And enjoy the day-to-day contact with fellow writers. Sharing others' achievements really does give you a boost. And helping others (see SYW) is a way to help your own writing.

So, once again, welcome.

Mumut,
So you started late and still became a published author. That's encouraging news. I think you're onto something, maybe I should investigate what my feelings/thoughts are regarding being an 'author'.
Perhaps that's too big a bite for me to take right now and just keeping focused on telling my stories might take some of the anxiety away.

I definitely will participate in giving fb, once I build up my confidence. :)

Thanks for the welcome, the encouragement, and your inspiring story!

SYW...um, yeah...I wanna go there. Gotta build up my confidence, of course. But I'll take your advice and hang, crit, be, do & share and over time I'm sure it won't seem so scary.

I'm not sure about the popcorn thingie, maybe I'll find out what's it all about ...like find the original thread or something. Or somebody will 'splain it all to me. But I really do like buttered popcorn! Alot! :)

Thanks for the encouragement and the 'this way' direction pointing.

Welcome from the frozen north. Remember the only real rule - "Writers write." Keep at it until your fingers bleed and then buy bandaids.

good advice!

"Writers write."
Jim it's so simple, isn't it? It's a motto I need to tack on my chest, helmet, heart, soul... mind...

Very wise words. Thank you!

I hope I can learn to live them.
