Hi forum members,
I'm the newest kind of 'newbie,' new to a forum, new to the internet, but, not new to writing. I've stayed away from technology, preferring the shelves of my local library for information, until I wrote a particular book and decided to really try to put it 'out there.' Then I discovered the BIG WIDE WORLD of publishing and frankly, I'm terrified! I've read some entries on this forum and found them to be interesting, informative and supportive, especially since I feel like a very small fish in a very large sea. It's nice to know that there's a community searching for the same answers I'm looking for, and I hope to join in and become part of a network that's encouraging to one such as I, totally uninitiated in the ways of the world. I've writen diverse genres, and have a manuscript with a very well known agent in New York. They say that 'ignorance is bliss,' as I sent her a short query only explaining my book in a couple of lines and she immediately asked for the whole manuscript, then a week later for the electronic copy. I assumed this was just the order of things, but since reading the forum I've discovered that it's a lot more compliced than I originally thought.
I'm hoping that my 'ignorance' pays off, but in the meantime while I wait (it's been 6 weeks), I look forward to taking part in the discussions that I've read to date but have been a little afraid to enter into.

By the kettle. Anyone for tea? :)
Lilyfields, don't worry about the six week waiting time. From what I've heard around these parts, that's par for the course for very busy agents. Well done for getting so far!

Welcome to AW and-wow!- welcome to the 'net! I hope you enjoy your time here. :)

Lilyfields, first of all, welcome! Everybody here wants to help. Second, could you share the name of your agent? Your experience sounds suspiciously like so many others, myself included. There are sharks in the water. If you are asked to pay anything, to get an editor you will have to pay, be very suspicious. I hope she's legit, it would be great to have an agent.
