I was thinking about when I first started writing and what pushed me- and then I looked at why I write now. I just wonder what pushes everyone else.
For me, I write for three reasons: the satisfy myself, the make a difference, and to prove my nemesis wrong.

I'm just curious, what are the reasons y’all write?

I write for an outlet for the stories tumbling around in my head. Now that I've received positive feedback from several different people including strangers, I feel pretty good about it.

Well I initially started writing because I was a bored little girl.

Then in my early teens I also began writing again to prove someone wrong (I am illiterate, apparently, because I did not memorize the thesaurus).

And I kind of gave up on writing until last month. I began again because I have a huge crush on this guy and I realized the only way I could admit my feelings of love for him were through a carefully coded story. And then when I sent the story to him I realized that I felt more satisfied having actually written something. I didn't care so much about his response after that.

Now I write because I'm scared I'll forget all of my ideas unless I get them down on paper!

Honestly, there are quite a few other things I could be doing with my life and be perfectly happy. But health issues have made most of them impossible, and the desire to write has been in the back of my mind since I was six. So now I'm doing it. And I will confess to wanting to challenge readers a bit, get them to see things from a different perspective. And make them enjoy it.

I chose to write because I had a story running around in my head that I thought would be cool and make a good movie. (Maybe one day ya never know ;)) Trouble is now I've started I don't think I'll ever be able to stop.

shh... I'm thinking...
I know it sounds hokey and cliche (though I noticed others have said it), but the writing chose me. It's an outlet, it's art, it's therapy, it's fun.

Um...yes, I knew what you meant. And that wasn't snarky. The comment at the end kinda showed that I was taking the piss out of myself.

It's like when people say "I could care less." Yes, I know what they mean. Doesn't make it right though.

Because my husband has all the talent as an artist, so I need something creative that I can be good at.

Is it just me or does anyone else have a God complex?

Surely writing is the ultimate in control-freakery.

I had a God complex way before I began to write. I think it first happened when I was four. It all started when I hit a light-switch. I created light with a flick of the switch. I am a God.

Who created the lightbulb?

Who cares. I harnessed its powers with a flick of a switch. I can bring little people into my living room by turning on my TV. I'm a frickin' God genius. Buttons create magic. And all I have to do is touch them. Tell me the cavemen wouldn't bow to my awesome power.
