I would like to thank the members of this board for helping me see the light about PublishAmerica, and for exposing it for the scam that it is.
I have been researching and writing on my book, a biography of the ninth President of the United States, William Henry Harrison, for two years. As a previously unpublished author, I am having a lot of trouble getting any interest at all from a publisher. When I first heard about PublishAmerica, it sounded intriguing and I decided to check it out. Of course, their claims turned out to be too good to be true. I have no fantasies about getting rich off my book, but I would like to sell it to someone other than my family members and friends, and I would like to sell more than 100 copies or less than most PA authors sell. In fact, I would like for it to put a little money in my pocket.
I'm not even sure my book would sell any copies if I went the PA route. Twenty five bucks for a 175 page paperback? You have to be kidding! Even my own mother wouldn't shell out that much money for a cheap paperback.
As tempting as it is to go the POD publishing route and see my book in print sooner, I am holding out for a legitimate publisher. I would like my book to be taken seriously, because it is a serious book. I would like for it to be in libraries and historical societies, which it wouldn't be if I went the POD route. I would like for it to be on the shelves of bookstores, and though I don't expect to move to a bigger house or buy a nicer car, I would like to make a few bucks. I look forward to participating in this forum and learning from the members here, and hopefully contributing something worthwhile myself. Thank you for your time.
