We have a very good Humane Association shelter here in Nashville (I think it's one of the best in the country). It's well supported and does a good job with abandoned and unwanted animals (both of my cats have come from the shelter).

People buying accessories might want to keep in mind that a cat does not care how much money you spent on a bed for it. It will still prefer yours or a paper box.

Awwww, I love that! I like the Michigan Humane Society too. They are featured on Animal Planet's "Animal Cops."

I always try to adopt adult cats, although occasionally a stray kitten finds me. Out of our current feline duo, one was adopted as an adult and one was so young he still had blue eyes. But he was under a dumpster in a truckyard where the workers wanted to kill him, so I don't feel too guilty about not rescuing an older cat in that case.

(I actually have three cats, but I don't count the ancient schizophrenic one who spends 23 1/2 hours under the bed listening to the voices in his head and the other 1/2 hour trying to attack us if he touch him.)

I like telling everyone I got my kitty off the mean streets. It makes the girls at the vet laugh.

They were talking to me about keeping her inside,and I assured them that I got her off the mean streets, I won't be sendin' her back out on them again.

You can get some nice animals from Animal Control. The first cat I got from them was an elegant little Siamese whose looks have been admired by show breeders. The second cat I got from them was the sweetest animal I've ever had.

I have three with low mileage, almost like new, their engines all run great and they come with accessories. '99, '06, and '06 models--asking $10k ea, OBO.
