Does anyone here have any experience with writing sketch comedy? I'm very interested in writing things like that, whether for SNL or whatever or just for fun so I need some pointers on where to start, what books to read up on, etc. Any help is appreciated.

I do not...but I have written 10 minute comedy plays. I had one produced just a couple of months back. I'm thinking that sketches would be very loosely written and ad-libbed. In a way a 10 minute comedy play would be very similar, but in another way it would be very different. Dialogue in plays are to be memorized by the actors, whereas the sketch comedy scene would probably be 'this is what has to happen...get there'. Though I can't be certain. I just found this site: http://www.writerswrite.com/journal/jul99/luff.htm

Check out this one too...seems to me it has some good advice: http://www.sitcom.co.uk/writers/writing_sketches.shtml
