I'm in the process of creating a travel book for children that will have photographs of different locations with a muppet type character in front of these locations. Think sort of a travelogue from a muppet's POV (not actual Muppet...I'm pretty sure I'd need approval to use Elmo or something). This character is completely my own creation. It'll give the child basic info about the place while doing some silly antics (i.e. trying to eat an ice cream cone taller than him from a popular ice cream parlour in the area.)

Anyway, I was wondering if I would need permission from these companies to show photos of their locations in the travel book? Most will be basic and they're public travel spots. Some are National Parks and beaches, others are special stores that would be cool for kids.

I'm just unsure if other travel books obtain permission to show these places in their books. Or if it falls under "public domain" because they are popular tourist stops.

Thanks for any help ahead of time!

I don't have an answer for you, but I wish that someone who knows that answer would leave you a reply because I would like to know, too. I have a blog about small towns across America and I worry about the use of pictures in my blog. Some pictures I have from my own travel, but eventually I will need to use someone else's and I am not sure how that works. Hope you get an answer!
