Am a beginner poet, and my muse is music that stir emotions which can be anything. I listen to heavy metal all the way to opera which am loving.

Well, I would like for those who wish to share poems inspired by music to post. Its a good way to expand the music library and learn about other poets.

Plese post band/singer/instrumental/ movie..it does not matter the language the song is in...I don't speak Germen but I love Rammstein ...and your poem...thanks...

And if you don't want to post a poem but want to share music please do.

I will go first...

Song: Avarice
Album: Hannibal Movie Soundtrack
Poem: Nature Of Nuturing

Confessed on the parchment of sun dried skin,
The moon tips it hat
And smiles with a grin,

Awashed in confusion and zealous ways,
Next to a heartbeat
There, dug a grave,

Night taste of air
Hesitate breath,
Milked by blue eyes
Silently left,

Dampen your spirit in sobering souls,
Harvest this nature
For nuture nevers holds.

This is an excellent idea for a thread, sable - I'm just going to move it out to the main poetry forum.

Welcome aboard, and thanks for getting this thread going.

Question of order: is the idea to share new poems inspired by music, rather than existing poems set to music?

Because if so, then maybe it *does* need to stay under password protection...

I really don't want to kill what could be an excellent thread with a lot of talk, but here's the deal:

Poetry games and exercises are out here in the open now. If you'd rather have them in a protected room, I'm happy to move the thread back.

The open forum gets more visibility (updates show up in New Posts for everyone).

The protected forums (Chapbook, Critique) aren't seen by web crawlers; the password protection is so people feel more comfortable posting their works there, in case they might want to submit them at some point.

That's the essential trade-off. The basic thinking is that threads like this aren't for workshopping or crit, but just for their own sake.

Anyhow - sable, if you've got strong feelings about this, please let me know. You started the thread, so it's up to you, friend.

Hate to be a wet blanket Poet, but don't we have a Music and Songwriting Forum and wouldn't the publishing of established song lyrics conflict with Copyright laws.

(I know the posting of Poems/Song lyrics is done around here a lot in order to illustrate certain points, but it seems to me that a thread set up on those lines would be a little bit too blatant).

Just a thought.

Jim - I think he's asking for new poems inspired by music, rather then posting your favorite lyrics.

Well, he may be asking for new poems inspired by music, but I think he posted the lyrics of the song "Avarice" from the movie "Hannabal". If so, those are copyrighted and posting them here is a violation of the artist's copyright.

Perhaps sableofnight should clarify for us. Are those your lyrics inspired by the movie, or are those lyrics from the movie?

Good Question

Am a 30 yr old woman...:)

that's not the lyrics its a poem I wrote inspired by the instrumental song.

am asking for poems inspired by music that you wrote. And I would like if you don't to post a poem to just post a song that you would like to share.
So I understand the concern but I don't think posting songs will get anyone in trouble if so youtube is going to be in court for 3 life times.

:) and am smiling cause this is not the first time someone thought me to be a man.
And if there is a music thread please post the link..thank you for your concern.

But I will. Submit to the wishes of the site...and I want all to be comfortable with their posting.

I am a member of a site called allpoetry.com and am use to poetry and music threads there.

I don't think any artist would be upset about posting lyrics...as long as you don't claim them as your own..but. then again. With myspace, twitter and soundclick..people putting their music out before they put out the CD to get fan feedback..so I don't think there be any copyright issues.

There nothing wrong with asking questions...Good looking out Jim..perhaps if we had more people asking questuons like you...we might not have had the housing market crash and burn.

Sable:

It's not your place to say what artists will or will not get upset about. The law is the law. Anything written in the USA since about 1927 is copyrighted unless the writer/artist specifically waived copyright. The copyright holder can post their own copyrighted material any place on the Internet or in the physical world any place they please. You cannot, at least not legally. Only the copyright holder may legally determine how to promote copyrighted work.

I hope YouTube does get sued and put out of business if it includes copyright violations. Then I won't have to feel guilty about never having visited it.

NDG

P.S. This is a writers site. Writing generally includes a concern for excellence in grammar and diction. Your posts will be taken much more seriously if you make them with proper English, not chatroom speak.

There are multiple instances of copyright infringement all over the web and the main reason they haven't been prosecuted s that they are too numerous to track, much less pursue as the cost would be prohibitive.

That does not make such practice either right or ethical.

One of the most annoying things for me has been trying to find copyright information on songs and find that various song sites have songs attributed to a number of people, (mostly incorrect) based on who recorded it rather than by who wrote it.

The other point I was making is that this Forum is not the place for such in any case as we specifically have a Forum devoted to Music and Songwriting, (including lyrics) and that is where such should be discussed.
