Hi all,

i found this forum while running some background checks on different publishing sites etc and realized i didn't have much of a clue about how to get my book out there - and some of you seem to be quite a bit experienced!

anyway, i'm 24 and live in vienna, austria. i lived in the UK for 2 years and since then, i've been writing in english instead of german (use it or lose it!). i completed a fantasy novel and now i'm trying to go somewhere with it, which is proving to be a more impossible endeavour than i'd anticipated. from what ive gathered on info so far, u either have to be rich enough to afford an agent or u have ur connections.

so, where do u think i should start? ;)

Hi there, and welcome to AW! I live in Belgium (have lived in Germany for 4 years, and know the language very well), but also write mainly in English. To my experience, you don't need an agent, just a good and trustworthy publisher. If you keep trying, you can find one that is willing to accept new authors - and if you can read contracts, there is no problem negotiating your own. Remember, an agent will take up to 15% of your earnings.

Nickie, ah, that's good to know, thanks! :) cool that you know some german as well!
and about the publishers, hm, well, i can hardly find any that accept unsolicited mss in the Fantasy genre :S don't know why...
