A really cool place
I just finished "An Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge". Sad and beautifully told. Loved it.

I also read "The Little Match Girl". Sad as well...Geez, I'd better read something light before I go to bed tonight.

Has anyone read "Neighbour Rosicky" by Willa Cather? One of my favorites if you're looking for a good read.

None new to recommend, but wanted to ditto Haggis' post (thanks for the link!) and bbird's.

Bookmarking this thread, cuz I'm sure there are going to be some gems.

Okay, wait. I'll throw in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, if ya haven't read it already. :)

I'm fond of the ghost stories of M. R. James and E. F. Benson, myself.

The Library of Babel by Jorge Luis Borges
Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius by Jorge Luis Borges

If it aint a Latin American short story it aint worth reading

Actually
The Hunter Gracchus by Franz Kafka
I can't find them online but 'Hell Screen', 'Events in a Bamboo Grove' and 'The Nose' by Ryunosuke Akutagawa are fabulous as well

My, how singularly parochial. Though I guess the German/Czech and Japanese stories save you. ;) Know Kafka very well, will have to look into Akutagawa.

If you like Japanese people suddenly going insane and slaughtering each other, he's brilliant. It's like being trapped in a Kurosawa film.

Don't forget A&P by John Updike. I haven't read it in ages (like since high school, I think), but it was one of those stories that got me hooked on short stories.
