I hate squatters.

Ever get a great idea for a website? Doesn't matter what it is. Some squatter has already stolen the name, so you'll have to pick a lame ass one.

That squatter? He doesn't plan on ever doing ANYTHING with the domain name. He just hangs on to it in the hopes an idiot with cash and a desire for that name will come pay him for it.

I hate them. I hate them all.

due to bad communication w/ my ISP, I lost my name that I was the first person to register, like 10 years ago. Some guys in hong kong wanted to sell it to me for 750 USD. that hurts. If I had 750 USD to *spare* - I'd buy it. I'm really mad.

I hate them too. I hate them all.

I have lots of anger to spare, so I'll hate who (whom?) Deek hates, 'cause he once showed me his nipple and that buys him a friend for life.

Thank you, SPeachy.

Layla, I know. My first domain name, last I heard, had been bought by microsoft, and for a while was used by the Xbox team, but is currently in disuse. I wonder if they'd sell it back to me?

No, they'd license it to you, and then you'd have to pay Gates the same fee for every domain you register from then on whether you put a site on it or not. :D

Yup. Every domain name I've ever typed in has been mysteriously taken already. It's a conspiracy I tells ya. Extraterrestrials are involved.

After the 30 Rock episode where Jenna donated her hair to "Merkins of Hope", I registered www.merkinsofhope.com. I intended to throw up a joke site, but didn't have the time. So I suppose I'm squatting on it, but I won't renew next year and if anybody wants it, I'll give it away for free.

Try waiting a week.

I searched my desired url, it was available, I didn't buy it. A few hours later: gone! And for sale for $99. But apparently squatters have a week to up the cash when they register. If they don't manage to sell it to the poor sap who searched (apparently the bastards track url availability searches) they just let the registration slide away, and the name comes up for grabs again.

I waited a week and got mine for $9
