A couple of weeks ago I had a first chapter critted. One of my greatest weaknesses was my characters were one dimensional. S-o-o I went to Uncle Jim's pages for writing help. As I was reading and studying there I came across plot generaters and through that I found a tarot reading for a plot line it was really cool.
Then I went to facade.com and used my character's profiles to generate readings. Then I used the reading to add more characteristics to my hero and herorine. I did this several times and it helped me round them out and make them much more interesting. I still used what I already had in their profiles, too. I guess it sort of worked like prompts. I used what was written and it gave me ideas for them. Just thought I would share.

I'm glad it worked for you.

I tried Tarot cards to write poetry (those themed ones). It is like a prompt, as you say. Fun to try on a different hat than my own, but the stuff I wrote never ended up really fitting my style so it ultimately didn't work for me.

But what works works. Keep shoveling out the words!
