For a few years now, I've been mining AW for helpful information without joining. I finished my first novel last year and have been submitting it to agents, so the Background Checks were vital.

I'm new to this forum, but not new to writing. I started my first book when I was 13, and then started a few more before actually finishing one in my 30s. There were lots of short stories in between (one published), some poetry (including a longer work inspired by a section of The Epic of Gilgamesh), and articles on various subjects (21 published) that have also included my photographs. And lest you think I'm just another braggart, the current tally on my novel is 39 rejections (3 requests for full, 2 partials).

My current projects are a children's picture book, still sending out my novel ms, and a collection of nature poems and essays. I may take on some illustrating with the nature poems as well, but it depends on how ambitious I get. I'm also in the process of revamping my photography website.

I am active in the El Dorado Writer's Guild, a local critique group that meets twice a month. A good mixture of levels and personalities, but no one else in our group does children's writing, so I'll be looking at some of the appropriate sections on the forum to see if I can supplement my current group.

That's all I can think of for now, I'm looking forward to joining in with the community instead of just lurking.

Come on, Angelica! What’s wrong with lurking? I’m sure lots of lurkers would just lurk to tell you that it lurks cool when you’re lurking.

I have posted a query for my novel on the SYW board, but haven't gotten around to other examples of my work yet. I'll have to think about where to post the Gilgamesh one, it started as a long poem (and I read it on a radio poetry show in that form) but I've since reworked it into a prose piece. It's been a while since I looked at it; my novel consumed a lot of time. I can tell that this board also could consume a lot of time, the temptation is to spend my writing time allowance playing here!

Welcome.

Your photographs are making me quite jealous, both for the amazing scenery and the ability to capture it on camera.

Thanks for the kind words on my photos! I've been neglecting my photography in favor of writing in the last few years. Your encouragement helps nudge me to keep at it.

I also had some time today to go through the links and pages of everyone who has made me welcome---what a gathering of talent!
