Is it possible to find out the real name of an author if they publish their book in a pen name? I know if I used a pen name I would have to give my real name for payment, but is there any way for people to find out my real name?

Depends on how well known you become would be my guess. Most people in general prob don't care to know if the author is using a pen name or not. Perhaps I'm wrong.

A lot of romance novels are written under pen names, but I can always find the author's real name by looking at the copyright page (at the front of the book).

I wonder if there is a way around that. I have a reason, I'm not just paranoid ;)

It's possible to get copyright protection under the pen name rather than your own name. That's something you can arrange with the publisher when the time comes.

Technically it is possible to not have your real name appear anywhere in public. Realistically if someone actually wants to find out "who you really are" they will probably be able to.
