When querying a publisher for a young reader, do you ever have to send a synopsis along with the query? Since it isn't a long novel... so far it's around 2,000 words... I can't fathom why a synopsis would ever be necessary. I've been researching this and (so far) haven't seen a synopsis mentioned for the shorter books, but I'd like to be sure that this is true first. Thanks for any advice. :)

I don't think you need to. I assume the query includes a one- or two-paragraph summary of the book, and that should be adequate. Of course, always follow their guidelines. Send a synopsis if they ask for one. But in general I've only been asked for a synopsis when I've been asked to send the manuscript.
