I just finished reading a GN that I really enjoyed and would like to recommend/discuss. The book is The Surrogates by Robert Venditti and Brett Weldele. I found it quite brilliant and thought provoking.

Has anyone else read this? If so, what are your thoughts on it.

I've read the first 2 issues and think its a pretty good so far. Although, I did kind of screw up the experience by reading The Surrogates screenplay (with Bruce Fucking WILLIS) first. I will try and read the rest tonight and express my thoughts.

I think the movie will be pretty awesome. I've heard it's packing a bit of heat because a lot of people (being people) accuse it of stealing from some other dude. Can't remember who. Anyone heard about this?

I didn't realise until after reading the GN that they were casting Bruce Willis in the lead role. That seems like a good choice to me. I think he'll pull the character off well.

I didn't hear anything about it stealing anyone else's ideas, but it's possible. Or it's also possible that two different unrelated people both had the same cool idea simultaniously. I actually think this is more likely, and that since The Surrogates was sucessful somebody else is just trying to cash in on it...

Yea you're right, but you know what non-writers can be like. They don't understand that there's nothing that hasn't been done before, so it's easy for them to judge and call something a ripoff just because perhaps the setting or basic premise is the same. Jeez, how many movies deal with assassins, detectives, vampires, zombies, superpowers, government companies hunting people with powers!

It's really funny when people accuse a movie of ripping off another movie, even though it came out before it!

Heroes, X-Men and Push is a recent example. Heroes fans really need to get it in their thick skulls that X-Men came out before Heroes, and that Heroes has become crap anyway lol.

I'm guessing that someone else used the same premise that humans can control robots, or something.

Well, I saw the preview for The Surrogates, and I admit, I haven't yet read the comic, but the movie looks really good, and they somehow made Bruce Willis look like he did when he made the original Die Hard... talk about excellent SFX and makeup. Anyway, I'll definitely be seeing that movie.

I'll be waiting on the DVD.

I've been burnt too many times - Faust, Elektra, Catwoman, Zoom, Spider-Man 3, Judge Dredd... Maybe this one will be better than most, but I can't help thinking that Sin City, Hellboy 2 and 30 Days Of Night were the pinnacle of the current crop of adaptations.

This movie adaptation does look really good-- really intense. I can tell from the preview several points where it's strayed from the book, but they look like they could be good choices.
